Mindfulness for businesses

As a lawyer for 20 years, I know first hand the pressures facing those working in the corporate world. It is demanding, often requiring long hours, balancing life with work, appraisals and promotions, expectations of colleagues, the list goes on. The stress that these factors can cause will often seem overwhelming and can lead to illness and burnout, as well as the resignation of great employees. As a business, you might be wondering what you can do to change and alleviate any one of the multiple pressures.

I can work with you as a mindfulness and meditation facilitator to help you towards finding ways to alleviate some of those pressures, which will:

  • Enable your staff to manage their time more effectively
  • Improve their own performance, and that of your business
  • Increase efficiency
  • Help people when they are struggling with overwhelm
  • Foster a calmer, more relaxed yet productive environment

All by the act of taking time out from work and using the tools of mindfulness and meditation for a few minutes a week.

It is not always easy to deal with the pressures faced when trying to balance work obligations with the rest of our lives. I am still a lawyer, working from home three days a week. The remainder of the week, I teach mindfulness and meditation, as well as yoga and I offer coaching to people who are looking to find a balance in their lives. I wanted to increase my effectiveness as a lawyer, but also take care of my personal wellbeing. When these things are balanced, I can be the best lawyer I can be, and the happiest person I can be.

In order to get the best out of the people who work for you, there has to be balance. You can help your employees find more balance by offering online mindfulness and meditation sessions once a week.

There are several reasons why businesses like yours can benefit from offering mindfulness and meditation sessions, such as:

  • Relieving stress, allowing people to deal with things more calmly
  • Improving mental and emotional wellbeing – happier staff are more effective
  • Letting your employees know that their welfare is important to you
  • Cultivating a culture of balance in the workplace, meaning less sickness and less chance of staff reaching burnout
  • Having a more effective and efficient business with thriving people as part of that business
  • Better and more positive contributions in your business

My mission is to bring balance to the lives of busy people, and teach that taking time to take care of ourselves improves our lives, both professional and otherwise.

These improvements can be seen in:

  • Being better able to deal with difficult people, situations and events
  • Learning to respond, rather than react
  • Not rushing tasks, which can lead to errors
  • Better relationships with people, personally and professionally
  • Actually having more time, rather than less
  • Improved mental health and wellbeing

I can offer a weekly session of between 45 minutes and an hour of a combination of mindfulness and meditation, online and available to all of your employees.

The sessions begin with a short discussion, about the practices or how everyone found the previous session, and then I present some information on the practice theme for the session. The session will include a mindful or meditation practice for everyone to join in with.

After the practice, I will ask people to talk about how it went for them, what went well, or not so well, and offer some guidance and feedback.

After the session, I will send an email detailing what we covered in the session and a little of the background to it, why it helps, the science and theory behind it, and a reminder of the practice, so it can be done at home (if desired) during the remaining week.

The sessions cover topics such as:

  • Kindness and compassion
  • Attention and focus
  • Finding balance
  • Anxiety and turning into difficult times
  • Comparison and perfectionism
  • Goals
  • Radical self care

Life can be busy and stressful and we can all feel frazzled which can become something we accept as normal and we can become stuck.

The way we work has changed a lot over the last couple of years and dealing with that can be tricky.

I want to help businesses discover how to help their employees live a life of balance, a life where they can reduce stress and overwhelm, and find happiness and contentment in their work and in their lives.
